About Grouse Haven Trout Flies

I have been an avid fly-tyer for over ten years.  I first discovered fly-tying at a young age, and taught myself the art by absorbing every bit of information I could glean from books and other various sources.   In addition to fly-tying, I intensely studied aquatic insects, spending many hours on the Sandy River collecting everything I could get my hands on, including all assortments of nymphs and larvae.  I would take all of the specimens home and study every aspect of them:  their color, size and then research what time of year they hatched.  This research proved to be invaluable when tying flies, as I learned not only to match the correct size and color, but to make them as realistic as possible.  Through the years I have conducted several fly-tying classes in the State of Maine, and have tried to help people not only master the art of fly-tying, but to understand the entomology aspect as well.  I believe understanding the entomology of an aquatic insect and what classification they're in, makes it easier to "match the hatch" as they say.    I realize not everyone ties flies in the traditional manner, so if you would like a specific fly tied a certain way let me know what you're looking for, and I will do my best to accomodate your needs.

Grouse Haven Trout Flies gives each fly a 100% satisfaction guarantee!
